  Important Information

This free e-newsletter is borne out of a passion for proper health education to be made freely available to everyone (and don’t worry, your email address will never be given to anyone else – it remains confidential). I am 100% dedicated to finding and reporting the truth on topics that matter and I am also 100% independent, which means I take no money from companies or products I may write about, and I cannot be bought off by suppliers. It is also not my intention to sell you anything in this newsletter and I promote what I believe to be the absolute truth at all times. Sometimes people heavily promote a particular brand of water filter, cleaning agent, health product or equipment for monetary gain, free advertising or some exposure as a result of their “endorsement”. I have never done this, nor will I ever do so. It is my absolute joy and pleasure to provide scientific information in this newsletter – for free! Hope you enjoy it!

Sally Ann Creed |  February 2007 General Health Newsletter

Welcome to those of you who have just joined my newsletter mailing list - I've had an inor-dinate amount of new people join this month, which is really great.  I do another news letter too - the Subscriber's E-Magazine - see some of the contents in this month's E-Magazine in the bar under the photo to your left (in magazine format, and delivered to your inbox in PDF, pictures etc).  You can subscribe on my website, which also gives you free access to a Member's Area packed with more information.  The No Sweat e-Nuts and Bolts Course is under way - and if you really want to join it - you can still do so on my website.

It's a very "fishy" newsletter this month, as there is so much coming out about fish oil in the news, medical journals and writings by experts you could literally swim in the information.  So if you are unconvinced, I hope this will help to convince you.

IN THE NEWS

The Flaxseed Oil 'Mistake'

For the longest time I’ve promoted fish oil as the only real source of omega-3 worth talking about, backed by decades of scientific evidence of its benefits – so I was pleased to find a fascinating article on the Budwig Diet Revision (sent to me by a reader), because I’ve always thought flaxseed oil and cottage cheese was a foolish combination anyway.  They're revised this to be fish oil and whey isolate - exactly what it should have been to begin with. Whey isolate has been something I’ve seen do wonders for literally hundreds of people – so this revision is most welcome, and sensible.

With all the negative press about flaxseed oil, fish oil has taken its rightful place globally as the only real omega-3 to ingest by those who truly understand what health is all about (just look at all the new brands on the market, and all the new research.)  I giggled when I noticed Udo Erasmus (who it seems finally realises the benefits of fish oil) has come up with an algae source of DHA, albeit inferior to fish oil, and in the teeniest amount.  This indicates to me that he is admitting the benefits of DHA not found in, nor converted from, plant oils, and plainly realizing flaxseed oil and plant oils just don’t do the job - DHA is needed for optimum health. Pity it's not the real deal from fish, but it's a start.

Best-selling diet book author and healthy heart advocate Dean Ornish says 10 years ago he didn't recommend vitamin E, but since the evidence of its benefits has mounted, he recommends it to everyone.  "The risks are so negligible, the costs are so small and the potential benefits are so great, it makes a lot of sense to consider taking them," says Ornish, who takes 400 IU daily.

FISH OIL IMPROVES KIDS’ CO-ORDINATATION

A brand new Australian study has further reinforced research which shows that regular supplementation with fish oil can be beneficial to childhood development.

In research reported in the December 2006 online edition of the Archives of Disease in Childhood (Fetal and Neonatal Edition), a study by researchers from the University of Western Australia has found that babies born to women who received regular fish oil supplements during pregnancy had improved hand-eye co-ordination and general cognitive development.  Read the article on my website - "Health Articles" - and look under Fish Oil for the article by this name.

USA's NEW FAT - SAME OLD PROBLEM

The new “interestified fat” set to replace trans fats in USA is just more of the same really, as it depresses insulin whilst raising blood sugar and tends to lower the “good” HDL cholesterol just like hydrogenated fat does.  Not a healthy fat at all – it is in fact a modified fat which includes hydrogenation in the manufacturing process – and as such, this fat may be worse.  See Nutrition & Metabolism plus more on my website from research conducted at Brandeis University.

Q & A

Q: If my partner smokes and I become pregnant will this affect my baby, and how?

A: An Australian study has confirmed that smoking among partners of non-smoking pregnant women is linked to adverse affects on the foetus, including low birth weight. Paternal smoking also increases the risk of infant respiratory infections and sudden infant death syndrome, irrespective of the mother’s smoking habits.

Drinks Which Hydrate & Those that Don’t

Have you ever wondered if a cup of coffee or tea and milk can substitute as one of your recommended eight glasses of water a day? Most drinks do a good job of hydrating, but the components of some common drinks sharply reduce their hydrating ability. Which drinks are the best hydrators and which the worst? This article gives the 3 most hydrating and 4 least hydrating drinks.  See my website under "Health Articles" for the full article.

Australian Nutrition Courses – Price Increase 1 March

Because of the rise in printing costs and just about everything else going up at the start of this year (groan), we are going to have to raise our Australian course prices a little bit.  However – we want to give you a chance to make hay while the sun shines.  I hate hikes slapped on me suddenly, so they will remain static for newsletter readers till 1 March – you have the whole of February to take advantage of the lower prices.  If you would like a prospectus and prices please email me at sally@sallyanncreed.co.za. This price increase does not include the e-Nuts & Bolts Course which only goes up next year.

I leave you with this thought: God says "Call unto Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know" Jeremiah 33:2

Till next month, God bless you all!
