JANUARY 2009
GENERAL HEALTH NEWSLETTER
Happy New Year to you all – 2009 is going to be
our BEST year yet!!! If you don’t think so, you
can do all YOU can to make it so. Certainly
when it comes to the area of health, we all have
a choice, and we can decide to eat healthily –
no excuse.
Do You Need Supplements?
There’s a school of thought which says we get
all of our nutrition from food. Well in a
perfect world with no pollution, pesticides or
westernized civilization and eating organic,
seasonal foods – that would probably be true.
But in the real world, it’s not so simple. The
U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) recently
did the most extensive research project ever
done on the American diet, which is not much
different to the normal Western diet - they
studied the daily food and nutritional intake
from a cross section of over 21,000 men, women
and children with shocking results. They
discovered that not one single person
in the study was getting all their minimum
recommended daily allowance (RDA) requirements
from the foods they were eating.
The RDA’s were considered to be only “adequate,”
by the people who set them up. They’re the
minimum nutritional amounts necessary to prevent
some known deficiency diseases, such as scurvy,
beriberi and rickets. The RDA’s are not even
close to providing you with vibrant health,
and yet not one single person in the study was
getting even “adequate” nutrition!
Look at one example of what you’d need just to
get the (minimum) RDA for Vitamin E, which is 30
International Units (IU). Two very good sources
are peanuts and brown rice, but in order to get
"adequate" vitamin E from these two foods you
would have to eat:
-
at least 285g of peanuts with 1,050 calories
-
or just over a kilogram of brown rice at
1,575 calories
Research shows the Optimum Daily Amount (ODA)
you need to take advantage of the many health
protective benefits of Vitamin E, you should be
getting 200-400 IU's at the very least. This
equates to:
-
a minimum of 40 cups of peanuts at 33,600
calories
-
or 130 cups of brown rice with 91,000
calories!
To make matters worse, of the 26 nutrients known
to be essential to human beings, only 16 are
necessary for plant growth and modern commercial
industry uses artificial fertilizers which
overlook the 10 other nutrients, many of which
are essential minerals for protecting against
cancer, diabetes and premature ageing.
So to preserve your health I recommend eating
good, healthy food including high fibre foods,
fish and organic protein, plenty of vegetables
and a little fruit, plenty of water and then
take the following really basic supplements:
-
3g of fish oil (I like “The Omega-3
Solution” – only 2 of these needed daily)
-
2g of Vitamin C (I like “Ester CTM”
by Nutrition Solutions )
-
A really GOOD multivitamin with high-dose
nutrients
To your good health!

Spiritual
Health
This is just such a wonderful scripture for the 2009, so
full of promise – I hope it blesses you!
It’s from the Holy Bible - Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)
and says:
"For I know the plans I have for you," declares
the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm
you, plans to give you hope and a future."
Recipe:
Rocket
Salad with Walnuts & Figs
This is one of my favourites!
Serves 4
You’ll Need:
½ medium onion, sliced thinly
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar*
1 cup hot water
8 dried figs,
sliced*
2 tablespoons walnuts*
2 bunches rocket (about 8 cups)
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar* ½
tsp organic honey*
2 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil*
Himalayan salt* & cracked black pepper*
*
= all these organic items are available from
Creeds (or by mail order) under the
Sally-Ann Creed Nourishing Solutions label
Let’s make it:
1.
Marinate sliced onion in vinegar and hot
water while preparing the rest of the
ingredients.
2.
Rinse and dry the rocket.
3.
If you have a salad spinner that is best,
otherwise, dry rocket with paper towels.
4.
Whisk together balsamic vinegar, honey,
salt and pepper and olive oil.
5.
Toss with rest of ingredients and serve.
BYE
I love the way The Message puts 3 John 1:2 – it
says: “I
pray for good fortune in everything you do, and
for your good health - that your everyday
affairs prosper, as well as your soul!” Essentially, that’s my prayer for you, the reader of
this newsletter, this year. May
God bless you in 2009 - remember life’s to be
lived to the full! Make sure you live it
thoughtfully, with a grateful heart, and with
immense joy! Till next month, love from
