I
mportant Information
This free e-newsletter is borne out of a passion for proper health education to be made freely available to everyone (and don’t worry, your email address will never be given to anyone else – it remains confidential). I am 100% dedicated to finding and reporting the truth on topics that matter and I am also 100% independent, which means I take no money from companies or products I may write about, and I cannot be bought off by suppliers. It is also not my intention to sell you anything in this newsletter and I promote what I believe to be the absolute truth at all times. Sometimes people heavily promote a particular brand of water filter, cleaning agent, health product or equipment for monetary gain, free advertising or some exposure as a result of their “endorsement”. I have never done this, nor will I ever do so. It is my absolute joy and pleasure to provide scientific information in this newsletter – for free! Hope you enjoy it!

Too Much Calcium, Not Enough Magnesium
The Human Nutrition Research Center in Grand Forks, North Dakota released an alarming report a while back which revealed that when humans are deprived of magnesium they may begin to experience abnormal heart beats. The heart muscle of people who experience sudden-death heart attack is often found to be low in magnesium.

Magnesium is in fact a muscle relaxant, while calcium is a muscle constrictor. Low magnesium intake is associated with muscle spasm, tremours and convulsions. A lot of emphasis is placed on calcium, but not enough on the importance of magnesium.

Women are usually advised to consume 1200-1500 milligrams of calcium daily, yet virtually nobody will tell you that calcium in single doses that exceed 500mg are not absorbed and that you only need around 400-600mg of supplemental calcium since your diet already provides about 800 milligrams of this mineral.  We’re simply taking in too much calcium, and too little magnesium.

Because 99% of magnesium resides inside living cells, blood serum levels are not a good indicator of magnesium deficiency, and a blood test or hair analysis reading will be inaccurate if your magnesium levels are low.  Studies show 8 out of 10 people are magnesium-deficient, and that the average person consumes 800-1500mg of calcium daily and only 275mg of magnesium. Thus the dominance of calcium over magnesium produces the following deficiency symptoms:

  ·         muscle spasm
·         eyelid twitches
·
irregular heart beat
·
premenstrual tension
·         migraines
·
heart flutters
·
backaches
·
leg cramps and constipation

All of these are linked to calcium overload with too little magnesium. Excessive calcium may also result in kidney stones and heart valve calcifications.  Researchers warn that adults who consume excessive amounts of caffeine or alcohol, or who take diuretics are prone to experience irregular heart beats and should consume more magnesium. The same is true for diabetics and people with low thyroid activity. Consuming tap water that has been softened by adding sodium worsens the problem.  Supplement your diet with 200-400mg of magnesium daily - the only side effect of too much magnesium is a loose stool, and reducing the dosage resolves this problem.

Q & A: Fructose consumption leads to Diabetes and Heart Disease
Q Is it true that consumption of fructose leads to heart disease and diabetes?  If so, please tell me more about this.
A:
I’m afraid it’s true. Scientists have now proved that a cheap form of sugar used in thousands of food products and soft drinks can damage human metabolism and is fuelling the obesity crisis.

Fructose, a sweetener derived from corn, can cause dangerous growths of fat cells around vital organs and is able to trigger the early stages of diabetes and heart disease. It has increasingly been used as a substitute for more expensive types of sugar in yoghurts, cakes, salad dressing and cereals. Even some fruit drinks that sound healthy contain fructose. Experts believe that the sweetener - which is found naturally in small quantities in fruit - could be a factor in the emergence of diabetes among children. This week, a new report is expected to claim that about one in 10 children in England will be obese by 2015.

Previous studies of the potentially adverse impact of fructose have focused on rats, but the first experiment involving humans has now revealed serious health concerns. Over 10 weeks, 16 volunteers on a strictly controlled diet, including high levels of fructose, produced new fat cells around their heart, liver and other digestive organs. They also showed signs of food-processing abnormalities linked to diabetes and heart disease. Another group of volunteers on the same diet, but with glucose sugar replacing fructose, did not have these problems.

People in both groups put on a similar amount of weight. However, researchers at the University of California who conducted the trial, said the levels of weight gain among the fructose consumers would be greater over the long term. Fructose bypasses the digestive process that breaks down other forms of sugar. It arrives intact in the liver where it causes a variety of abnormal reactions, including the disruption of mechanisms that instruct the body whether to burn or store fat.

This is the first evidence we have that fructose increases diabetes and heart disease independently from causing simple weight gain,” said Kimber Stanhope, a molecular biologist who led the study. “We didn’t see any of these changes in the people eating glucose.” Natural fructose represents 5%-10% of the weight of any fruit. Its use in processed foods stems from a discovery in 1971 that synthesised a 55% fructose and 45% glucose syrup from maize, creating an ingredient cheaper and six times sweeter than cane sugar.

High-fructose corn syrup, or glucose-fructose syrup, is listed as an ingredient in many food and drink products, although it is virtually impossible for consumers to know the quantity and ratio of fructose used. Barry Popkin, professor of nutrition at the University of North Carolina, and a US government adviser on health policy, said: “Historically, we never consumed much sugar. We’re not built to process it. ”

Spiritual Health: It’s time to make resolutions, even if you don’t keep them all, a good one to make is to get to know your Creator.  Wouldn’t you like to know the One who made you? If so, get hold of a New Testament, start reading and as you do – ask this Wonderful One to reveal Himself to you as you read His Word.
