I
mportant Information
This free e-newsletter is borne out of a passion for proper health education to be made freely available to everyone (and don’t worry, your email address will never be given to anyone else – it remains confidential). I am 100% dedicated to finding and reporting the truth on topics that matter and I am also 100% independent, which means I take no money from companies or products I may write about, and I cannot be bought off by suppliers. It is also not my intention to sell you anything in this newsletter and I promote what I believe to be the absolute truth at all times. Sometimes people heavily promote a particular brand of water filter, cleaning agent, health product or equipment for monetary gain, free advertising or some exposure as a result of their “endorsement”. I have never done this, nor will I ever do so. It is my absolute joy and pleasure to provide scientific information in this newsletter – for free! Hope you enjoy it!

Sodium Benzoate – Safe or Dangerous?

We are flooded with chemicals, preservatives, herbacides and hormones in our food supply – it seems crazy to knowingly eat or drink products today containing anything we can choose to avoid.  One such toxin is called E211 or sodium benzoate, a preservative used to keep drinks (and other foods) fresh by not allowing mould and harmful bacteria to grow. Replacing one toxin for another goes against the grain a bit – even Coca-Cola phased out the toxin in 2008 in the UK due to fears of DNA damage!  It was reported in the daily mail – click here for more.

In combination with vitamin C - which naturally occurs in many soft drinks, or is added as another preservative – sodium benzoate can react to form the carcinogenic chemical benzene. Other studies have found it can cause damage to human DNA, switching off certain sections of the genetic code and increasing the risk of Parkinson's disease and cirrhosis of the liver. It also made the news recently as one of the chemicals implicated in increasing children's risk of hyperactivity in a study by researchers from Southampton University.

You will find that this preservative is used in things such as vinegar, Chinese foods (ie. soy sauce), fizzy drinks, jams, fruit drinks/juices and worst of all – some “health” supplements.  Please read your labels.  Lastly – did you know that sodium benzoate is also used in fireworks....as fuel in whistle mix!  So if you love your liver, don’t want Parkinsons, cancer or DNA damage – maybe it’s a good idea to read your labels routinely for any preservative – especially this one – and choose an alternative product with less risk.  To read more on this really Dangerous chemical click these links http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/search.html?searchPhrase=sodium+benzoate.

Flaxseed Oil Triples Premature Birth Risk

A new study has found that pregnant women consuming flaxseed oil are four times more likely to have premature baby births. Led by University of Montreal researchers, the study has found that the risks of a premature birth quadruple if flaxseed oil is consumed in the last two trimesters of pregnancy. In the study led by Professor Anick Berard of the Universite de Montreal, involving 3,354 Quebec women, the only one product that had a very strong correlation with preterm births was flaxseed oil. "In the general population, the average rate of premature births is 2-3%. But for women consuming flaxseed oil in their last two trimesters that number jumps up to 12 percent," said Berard. "It's an enormous risk," Berard added. Read more

Recipe: Versatile Ginger Dressing

What you need:
3 Tbsp Macadamia Oil                           1-2 Tbsp fresh lemon juice

What you do with this:

Whisk ingredients together and store in the refrigerator in a dark bottle. Great as a light dressing over salads, grains, vegetables - anything really!
