Important Information
This free e-newsletter is borne out of a passion for proper health education to be made freely available to everyone (and don’t worry, your email address will never be given to anyone else – it remains confidential). I am 100% dedicated to finding and reporting the truth on topics that matter and I am also 100% independent, which means I take no money from companies or products I may write about, and I cannot be bought off by suppliers. It is also not my intention to sell you anything in this newsletter and I promote what I believe to be the absolute truth at all times. Sometimes people heavily promote a particular brand of water filter, cleaning agent, health product or equipment for monetary gain, free advertising or some exposure as a result of their “endorsement”. I have never done this, nor will I ever do so. It is my absolute joy and pleasure to provide scientific information in this newsletter – for free! Hope you enjoy it!

GENERAL HEALTH NEWSLETTER - MAY 2008

Yes, this newsletter is a little late this month… I have been inordinately busy and although I get my subscriber newsletter out each month I don’t always get the free one out in time.  This will be a really short letter this month, due to my tight schedule, but I hope there’s something that will be of interest to you.  If you want the 6-page version with all the main news and information is in the Subscriber's E Magazine.

IN THE NEWS

Maxibiotic is now available in Creeds in Tokai, and my Nutrition Centre in Constantia.  Contact pa@sallyanncreed.co.za if you wish to get some but stay far away.  We have also just launched our Creeds MaxiFOS supplement – a prebiotic, which is a sweet, gorgeous “fibre” (though it looks and tastes like icing sugar) which actually feeds the good bugs in the intestinal tract.  There is a small amount of FOS (fructooligosaccharides) in the MaxiBiotic supplements too – but taken separately as an adjunct it is really magnificent.

The FOS Sweetener will be out this week too – a delicious alternative SAFE sweetener which is sweeter than just the FOS on it’s own, lasts longer and goes further.  It’s sweetened further with stevia powder (debittered) to enable you to use a teeny bit to sweeten and supplement your tea!  See more on my site or in Creeds.  Both these supplements are just such good news for people who are diabetic, ADD/ADHD, suffer from candida or any other condition where sugar should be avoided.  These are safe, healthy alternatives which actually do GOOD things for the body.  Come into Creeds for a free sample during the month of May.

FOS Boosts Calcium Absorption by 40%

Brazilian scientists have reported that supplementing the diet with the soluble dietary fibre FOS, boosted calcium absorption by more than 40% adding to an ever growing body of scientific evidence linking these prebiotics with improved bone health.

The fibres are most commonly used as a sugar replacer, and have increasingly been linked to gut health benefits, due to their action as prebiotics promoting the growth of beneficial intestinal microflora populations. But an increasing body of science is emerging linking the ingredients to help control blood sugar levels, reduce cholesterol, and boost bone strength.

The prebiotic is thought to work by changing the flora in the colon, with the more slowly fermented inulin acting as a selective 'fuel' for this modified flora, which is kept metabolically active further in the gut. This selective fermentation pattern results in the production of short chain fatty acids which decrease the pH within the colon, improving the solubility of the calcium present. The calcium is then better absorbed into the body. Human studies are increasing, with a significant number of studies into the role of the prebiotics on improving the bone health of adolescent girls. One such study reported that girls and boys aged between 9 and 12 supplemented with a mixture of FOS had an additional net accretion of calcium of 30 milligrams per day, compared to the controls who received a placebo (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2005, Vol. 82, pp. 471-476).

LINKS TO LOOK AT

This is just sooo cute!  Have a look at how to make sock puppets if you have children or grandchildren – these are great.

Health Café: Ways to increase mother’s milk

Yes, this is rather a different “recipe” this month – hope it helps you young mums….

1.       Eat plenty of sprouts (alfalfa, mung, lentil etc)

2.       Take plenty of dried barleygrass powder

3.       Drink 8-10 glasses of water a day

4.       Include a generous amount of the following in your diet: sesame seeds, sunflower seeds, dark green leafy vegetables, salads and vegetables.

5.       Eat plenty of organic protein (eggs, chicken)

6.       Get plenty of rest and maintain a calm, restful attitude while feeding your baby

Politics is the art of looking for trouble, finding it, misdiagnosing it and then misapplying the wrong remedies – Groucho Marx

Like I said, it’s a really short letter this month – next month I’ll have more time.

God bless you this month.
